Hi, I'm Bethany.

I’m glad you’re here. By the time you’ve stumbled across my website, you’ve probably already engaged in a number of Google searches for a qualified therapist, plus sifted through countless online profiles. Finding an experienced therapist you feel comfortable with can be exhausting. Like many people, you probably clicked on this part of my website because you’re wondering if I know what I’m doing, and if I can actually help you with the concern that prompted you to seek a therapist in the first place.

You might also be wondering why I do the work that I do, and if I can even relate to what it feels like to fall down life’s rabbit hole of challenges, asking, “What if this never gets better? What if this is just how it’s always going to be?” And my answer is, “Yeah, I’ve been there.” Even though my journey is different than yours, I’ve fought my way through life’s messiness in ways that can’t be informed by just education and training (and if you’re interested, you can read on below for all of my resume-type stuff). Before I get into to all of that, however, I want to share more about the type of client I tend to have the most success helping. That way, you can quickly determine if I might be a good fit for you.

The clients who are most successful in therapy with me are those who show up - ready to do the work necessary to bring about the life changes they are seeking.  They also understand that I don’t have a magic wand that will make their problems disappear. These clients value the fact that I am an active participant in the therapy process with them, and that my office is considered a "no-judging zone." My clients also know that I don't expect them to have all the answers, and I understand that some days, they just need a safe place to share their concerns out loud with a neutral, supportive third-party. From my end, you can expect that I’ll be straightforward and transparent with you. I’m not afraid to “get in the trenches” with you, and at this point, there’s almost nothing I haven’t heard, so I’m pretty unshockable. And we’ll laugh, probably a lot. Therapy is hard work, and it’s often uncomfortable, but I believe that it’s worth it.

Now that you have a better idea of whether or not I may be a good fit for you, here is some more about my background and experience. I completed a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Northern Arizona University in 2008. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia, and I’m also a “recovering” perfectionist and people pleaser. I’ve been providing counseling, education, and support to clients for almost two decades now.  My experience includes counseling at community mental health clinics, a grief support center, and an adoption agency. I have also taught Theories of Counseling as an adjunct instructor with the Department of Psychology and Sociology at Georgia Southwestern State University located in Americus, Georgia. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds.  I treat adults, ages 18 and up, and it is important to me that my clients know that I welcome diversity and advocate for equality and justice for everyone including all body sizes, abilities, races, ethnicities, sexualities, genders, and religions.

Note: I receive many requests for counseling related to couples therapy, as well as counseling for children and adolescents under the age of 18. Although those are not my specialties, I am glad to make referrals to other therapists trained in these areas. Feel free to call me directly, and I will be happy to point you in the right direction to find a therapist who is trained in these areas.

I hope this information has been helpful for you in determining if I might be the right therapist for you. If you have additional questions, please feel free to call me at (678) 251-9235.  I would love to help you get started today!  If I'm not the right fit for you, I will be happy to help you find another therapist who might be right for you, based upon your needs.
